S.Korea marks 5th anniversary of Cheonan navy ship sinking

South Korea today (Thursday) marked the fifth anniversary of the sinking of its navy ship by North Korea's surprise torpedo attack.

Offering her condolences to the 46 sailors killed in the sinking of the Navy's ship, Cheonan, during a memorial ceremony in the central city of Daejeon, President Park Geun-Hye urged North Korea to give up any type of 'reckless' provocation.

Park also stressed the names of the deceased should be remembered, calling for the military's impenetrable defense systems.

Although North Korea denies responsibility for the Cheonan incident, South Korea's retaliatory steps, the so-called May 24 sanctions, for the Cheonan's sinking remains a key barrier to relations between the two Koreas, still technically at war.
