Samsung produces world's first 3D vertical NAND chip

Samsung Electronics Co. has begun mass producing the world's first 3D vertical NAND flash memory chips.

The world's largest computer memory chipmaker said the new product will offer a 128-gigabit density in a single chip, innovating nearly 40 years of technology.

The development is significant for Samsung with the NAND flash memory market expected to reach around $31 billion in revenue by the end of 2016.
