Pres. Park asks local firms to sponsor Pyeongchang Winter Games

President Park Geun-Hye has called on South Korea's top businessmen to partner with the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics for the success of the first such event to be staged in the country.

The call from Park was made during her meeting on Tuesday with some 20 top executives of big conglomerates including Lee Jae-Yong, vice chairman of Samsung Electronics Co., and Chung Eui-Son, vice chairman of Hyundai Motor Group.

Park asserted that the Winter Games, to be held in the country's eastern alpine city of Pyeongchang, will provide a good opportunity for domestic firms to promote their brand value.

She also asked the businesses to expand investment and sponsorships for the culture and art sector, which will help boost the nation's global competitiveness.
