Wintertime Strawberries

Strawberries, widely known to be a spring crop, appear to have turned into a winter fruit in Korea.

Strawberries are ripening in greenhouses even in subzero temperatures. Kids are too busy eating strawberries.

Winter strawberries are more tasty and nutritious here. They also give farmers more income.

The government has been developing high-quality domestic strawberry varieties which are more profitable.

This not only helps home-grown strawberry varieties account for up to 95 percent of the domestic market but also reduces the royalty burden.

South Korea's strawberry production doubled this winter over a year ago.
