Pres. Park urges military's commanding war deterrence

President Park Geun-Hye has urged the military to maintain "overwhelming" war deterrence capabilities to elicit change in reclusive North Korea.

During a lunch meeting with some 70 top military commanders on Tuesday, Park also called for firm defense readiness against the communist North's provocations.

She said the South cannot predict when North Korea will stage what kind of provocations.

On Tuesday morning, a South Korean navy boat fired warning shots to chase off a North Korean patrol ship that crossed into the southern side of the west inter-Korean sea border.

Seoul's defense ministry said the North Korean boat immediately retreated to its side. No casualties were reported.
