S.Korea sees largest no. of moviegoers in 2017

The number of moviegoers in South Korea reached a record high in 2017.

The annual attendance record stood at nearly 220 million at the end of 2017, up by 2.84 million from a year before, according to data from the Korean Film Council.

The 2017 audience tally for Korean movies came to about 110 million, and their market share marked 53 percent as of end-2017, continuing their streak of controlling a majority stake for seven consecutive years.

Good receptions for large-scale Korean films such as "Steel Rain", "Along With the Gods: The Two Worlds" and "1987" helped drive up the figure.
