Israel, Palestine agree on long-term ceasefire

Israel and Palestine have reached a long-term ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, putting an end to their bloody 50-day war.

Under the ceasefire which was brokered by Egypt and went into effect on Tuesday, the two sides agreed to halt all hostilities, allow humanitarian aid and materials for civilian reconstruction into the area, and widen the fishing zone for Gaza fishermen.

The deal also includes indirect talks via Egypt to settle pending matters between the two sides to begin within a month. The issues include Hamas's demand to build a seaport and an airport in Gaza as well as Israeli's demand for Hamas's disarmament.

The open-ended truce comes after seven weeks of bloodshed in Gaza that has killed about 2,200 people.
